FOSALM awarded nearly £250,000

Great news for St Andrew’s

The Friends of St Andrew’s Church, Little Massingham, known as FOSALM, have received nearly £250,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

This is wonderful news for St Andrew’s, for Little Massingham, and for everyone who has worked so hard to protect the church.

ITV Anglia News featured the award on Saturday 23 May 2026. The coverage celebrated support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Norfolk Churches Trust and FOSALM.

A major step forward

FOSALM formed during the COVID-19 period in 2020. Since then, volunteers have worked to raise funds and awareness for St Andrew’s.

Now, through the new St Andrew’s Partnership Project, FOSALM is working with the Parochial Church Council to deliver urgent repairs and community improvements.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated, volunteered and supported the campaign. Your help has brought this project to life.

Repairing the church

The funding will help replace the temporary roof and protect the church for the future. These works are urgently needed.

St Andrew’s is a Grade I listed church. It is also on the Heritage at Risk Register, so this repair work is vital.

Work is expected to begin in September 2026 and finish by December 2026.

Opening up local heritage

The project will also help more people enjoy the church, the village and the local landscape.

St Andrew’s is Little Massingham’s only public building. Therefore, the project will also look at how the church can serve the wider community.

  • A new digital touchscreen will share information about the church, local history and nearby walking routes
  • New interpretation boards will help tell the story of the village
  • A specialist bat ecologist will help protect the church’s rare roosting bats
  • Feasibility work will explore future toilets and a kitchenette
  • Trial repairs to the south clerestory wall will help plan the next phase of conservation work

Thanks to National Lottery players

The St Andrew’s Partnership Project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Thanks to National Lottery players, we can restore the roof lost in 2017 and revitalise St Andrew’s Church.

This Grade I listed church is a key piece of Norfolk heritage. It is also Little Massingham’s only public building.
